Teeth Scaling Cost in Pakistan
Medically reviewed byDr. Saad Irfan— MDS, MSc, BDS·
Scaling removes calculus — hardened plaque — from tooth surfaces above and below the gum line. Brushing removes soft plaque, but once it mineralises into calculus no toothbrush will shift it. Across Pakistan a routine scale and polish runs roughly PKR 4,000 to 9,000, with deep cleaning for established gum disease considerably higher.
The distinction between those two matters and is often blurred. A routine scale is a preventive appointment for someone with healthy gums. Deep cleaning, or root planing, is treatment for periodontal disease: it goes below the gum line onto the root surface, usually needs local anaesthetic, and is typically split across quadrants over several appointments.
If you have been told you need deep cleaning, that is a diagnosis of gum disease, not an upgraded clean. Understanding which one you are being quoted for explains most of the price variation you will see.
Teeth Scaling & Polishing Prices Across Pakistan — 2026
These are two different procedures with different purposes, not a basic and premium version of the same thing.
| Type | Market range (PKR) |
|---|---|
Routine scale and polish Preventive cleaning for healthy or mildly inflamed gums. One appointment, usually 30 to 45 minutes, no anaesthetic needed. | 4,000 – 9,000 |
Deep cleaning / root planing Treatment for established periodontal disease. Below the gum line, usually under local anaesthetic, normally split across quadrants. | 9,000 – 15,000 |
Overall market range: PKR 4,000 – 15,000 per session. These are prices observed across dental practices in Pakistan, published so you can set a realistic budget and judge whether a quote you have been given is reasonable. They are not Dr Saad Dentistry’s prices — see how our pricing works.
What Makes the Price Go Up or Down
How long since your last cleaning
Heavy calculus build-up over several years takes substantially longer to remove than six months' worth.
Whether treatment goes below the gum line
Subgingival root planing is a different procedure to a supragingival scale, and is priced as such.
How many quadrants need treating
Deep cleaning is usually quoted and carried out by quadrant, often over two or more appointments.
Whether gum disease is present
Established periodontitis needs a full assessment, treatment and a maintenance programme — not a single appointment.
Staining
Heavy tobacco, tea or paan staining adds polishing time and sometimes requires air-abrasion.
What Should Be Included in the Price
Use this as a checklist when comparing quotes. A figure that excludes half of the list below is not cheaper — it is incomplete.
- Examination and gum health assessment
- Ultrasonic scaling above the gum line
- Hand instrumentation where needed
- Stain removal and prophylaxis polish
- Home care and brushing technique guidance
Additional Costs to Budget For
These sit outside the headline figure and are the usual reason a final bill exceeds expectations. Not all of them will apply to you.
Periodontal charting
Full pocket-depth measurement where gum disease is suspected. Sometimes billed separately.
Maintenance appointments
After periodontal treatment, three-monthly maintenance is usually recommended rather than six-monthly.
Antibiotic gel
Occasionally placed into deep pockets alongside root planing.
Gum surgery
Where pockets remain deep after non-surgical treatment. A separate procedure entirely.
How Prices Compare Across Pakistani Cities
| Karachi | Wide range. Higher-end practices include full periodontal charting as standard. |
| Lahore | Comparable to Karachi. |
| Islamabad | Slightly higher on average. |
| Smaller cities | Notably cheaper, though periodontal specialist referral is less available. |
Why the Cheapest Option Often Costs More
Scaling is the most affordable treatment in dentistry and the one most worth doing on schedule, because everything expensive downstream starts with what it prevents.
The thing to be wary of is not cheap scaling but incomplete scaling — calculus removed from the visible surfaces while deposits remain below the gum line. The teeth look and feel clean, the patient is satisfied, and the periodontal disease continues quietly underneath.
It is also worth naming the most persistent myth in Pakistani dentistry: that scaling loosens teeth or wears enamel. It does neither. What happens is that calculus was splinting already-mobile teeth, and removing it reveals bone loss that gum disease had already caused. The scaling did not cause the looseness — it revealed it. Avoiding scaling because of this belief is one of the most common routes to losing teeth entirely.
If your gums bleed when you brush, that is not normal and it is not something to wait out. It is the earliest and most treatable stage of gum disease.
Payment Plans and Instalments
Routine scaling is a single small payment. Deep cleaning across multiple quadrants is normally paid per appointment as treatment progresses.
How We Quote at Dr Saad Dentistry
Everything above is the Pakistani market. For your own case we quote after an examination rather than before it, because the figures on this page move substantially depending on findings we cannot assess without looking — bone condition, canal anatomy, how much sound tooth structure is actually left.
A consultation is PKR 2,000, the same at all three clinics. It covers a full examination, the diagnostic X-rays needed on the day, and a written treatment plan with every item priced separately. You are under no obligation to proceed with any of it.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does teeth scaling cost in Pakistan?
A routine scale and polish generally runs PKR 4,000 to 9,000. Deep cleaning for gum disease runs PKR 9,000 to 15,000 and is usually split across quadrants.
How often should I have my teeth scaled?
Every six months for most people. Every three months if you have been treated for periodontal disease, smoke, or have diabetes.
Does scaling damage enamel?
No. Ultrasonic scalers remove calculus, not enamel. The sensitivity some people feel afterwards comes from root surfaces that the calculus had been covering.
Will scaling loosen my teeth?
No — this is the most common misconception in Pakistani dentistry. Heavy calculus can splint already-mobile teeth. Removing it reveals bone loss that gum disease had already caused. The scaling did not cause it.
What is the difference between scaling and deep cleaning?
Scaling cleans above the gum line and is preventive. Deep cleaning goes below it onto the root surface and is treatment for gum disease. Different procedures, different purposes.
Does scaling hurt?
Routine scaling is generally comfortable, with some vibration and cold-water sensation. Deep cleaning is normally done under local anaesthetic.
Will scaling whiten my teeth?
It removes surface staining, which often makes teeth look noticeably brighter. It does not change your underlying tooth shade — that is what whitening does.
Why do my gums bleed during scaling?
Because they are inflamed. Healthy gums do not bleed when instrumented. Bleeding is a sign of gingivitis and it usually settles within a week or two of proper cleaning and good home care.
Can I just brush more instead?
No. Brushing removes soft plaque but cannot remove calculus once it has mineralised. Good brushing slows how fast it forms; it cannot take it off.
How long does an appointment take?
A routine scale and polish is usually 30 to 45 minutes. Deep cleaning takes longer and is normally spread across appointments.
Is scaling necessary before whitening?
Yes. Whitening gel cannot penetrate calculus, so whitening an uncleaned surface produces a patchy result.
What happens if I never have my teeth scaled?
Calculus accumulates, gum disease progresses, bone is lost around the teeth, and teeth eventually loosen and are lost. Periodontal disease is the leading cause of adult tooth loss and it is largely preventable.
