Dr. Abdul Sami Shaikh

Dr. Abdul Sami Shaikh is a senior dental surgeon whose career in dentistry began in 1983, the year he qualified with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, and registered with the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council. More than four decades later, he is still practising, which is itself a rare thing to find on a dentist's profile in Karachi.

The first eight years of his career were spent across government and civil hospitals in Sindh, including Civil Hospital Karachi, building the general caseload every dentist needs before specialising further. In 1991 he moved into a senior role treating patients in Karachi directly, and by 1994 his career took him to Saudi Arabia, where he spent the next two decades in senior hospital posts — first as acting chief dentist at King Khalid Military City Hospital in Hafr al-Batin, then as a dentist at Al-Adwani General Hospital in Taif. In 2000 he was formally registered with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties as a dental surgeon, a credential that required demonstrating his qualifications to an independent regulator outside Pakistan.

That period matters for a specific reason: military and large general hospitals see dental cases that a small private clinic rarely does — complex root canals, cracked and fractured teeth, and restorative work where there is no easy referral option and the case has to be resolved properly, on-site, the first time. Twenty-five years of that kind of caseload is where his depth in root canal treatment, crowns and bridges, and restorative dentistry comes from.
