Veneers are the one treatment where you should see the result before anything irreversible happens. The digital smile design is done here at the first appointment — on screen, against your own face, lip line and skin tone — and no enamel is touched until you have approved it.
What a veneer actually involves
A veneer needs a thin layer of enamel removed so it sits flush rather than bulking the tooth forward — 0.3 to 0.5mm, roughly the thickness of a fingernail, and considerably less than a crown. That reduction is permanent, which is the one thing worth understanding before you commit: a tooth that has been prepared for a veneer will always need something on it.
What veneers will not fix: Veneers cover the front of a tooth, so they fix colour, shape, size, gaps and chipped edges. They do not straighten significantly crooked teeth — that is braces — and they cannot be placed over active gum disease or a tooth with substantial decay, which needs treating first. If a case is better served by orthodontics or a crown we will say so at the assessment, including when that is the cheaper answer.

The ten-year warranty
Porcelain and zirconia veneers carry a ten-year warranty against chipping. There is one condition, and it is not fine print: if you grind your teeth at night you must wear the night guard we provide. Grinding is the single most common cause of a chipped veneer, and chipping that happens without the guard is not covered. We will tell you at the assessment whether you grind — it is visible on the teeth long before most people notice they do it.
