Zirconia CrownPrice in Pakistan
Medically reviewed byDr. Saad Irfan— MDS, MSc, BDS·
A crown covers a tooth that no longer has enough sound structure to survive on its own — usually after a root canal, a large fracture, or a filling that has grown too big to hold. Across Pakistan crowns run roughly PKR 15,000 to 70,000 each, and the material is what moves the number.
Zirconia dominates the market and for good reason: it is strong enough for back teeth, reasonably natural-looking, and priced in the middle. But it is not automatically the right answer. For a front tooth in a visible smile line, E-max transmits light more like natural enamel and generally looks better. For a heavily loaded molar in someone who grinds, monolithic zirconia is the more sensible choice.
Below is what each material costs across the market, where each one belongs, and what a complete crown quote should cover.
Pakistan market range, per crown
PKR 15,000 – 70,000
Covers preparing the tooth, the impression or scan, a temporary crown while the permanent one is made, and fitting it.

The short version
- Material is the main variable. Porcelain fused to metal, zirconia and full ceramic differ in strength, appearance and price, and they suit different teeth.
- A crown on a root-treated tooth often needs a post and core build-up first, which is a separate line rather than part of the crown.
- Front teeth cost more than back teeth in the same material, because shade matching against the neighbouring tooth takes chair time and lab skill.
- A crown that fails early is usually a preparation or fit problem, not a material one.
Where the money goes
The stages you are paying for
This is not one appointment. Each stage below is separate work, and the gaps between them are healing time rather than delay.
Preparation and records
The tooth is shaped, an impression or digital scan is taken, and the shade is matched. Any build-up needed to support the crown happens here.
Laboratory work
The crown is made to your prescription. This is where the material choice becomes a physical object, and it is the reason a case already sent to the lab cannot simply be cancelled.
Fit and cement
Contact points, bite and shade are checked before anything is cemented. A crown that feels high on the bite should be adjusted at this appointment, not lived with.
Dental Crowns prices across Pakistan in 2026
These are per-crown market ranges across Pakistan. The right material depends on which tooth is being crowned and how hard you use it — not on which is most expensive.
| Type | Market range (PKR) |
|---|---|
PFM — porcelain fused to metal A metal substructure with porcelain over it. Strong and long-established. The drawback is a dark line that can appear at the gum margin as gums recede, which is why it has largely moved to back teeth. | 15,000 – 35,000 |
Zirconia Milled from a solid ceramic block. Very strong, no metal, no grey margin. The default choice for most crowns and the only sensible option for heavy grinders. | 30,000 – 55,000 |
E-max / full ceramic Lithium disilicate. The most natural-looking option because it handles light the way enamel does. Best on front teeth; less suited to heavy molar load. | 40,000 – 70,000 |
Overall market range: PKR 15,000 – 70,000 per crown. These are prices observed across dental practices in Pakistan, published so you can set a realistic budget and judge whether a quote you have been given is reasonable. They are not Dr Saad Dentistry’s prices. See how our pricing works.
What makes the price go up or down
Which material you choose
The single largest factor. The gap between PFM and E-max is often more than double.
Whether a post and core is needed first
A root-treated tooth with little structure left needs a foundation built inside it before a crown can be fitted. Quoted separately.
Front tooth versus back tooth
Front teeth need shade matching across multiple layers and often several try-in appointments. That chair time is real and it is priced.
The laboratory used
Digitally milled crowns from a good lab fit more accurately than hand-built ones. A crown that seats precisely is far less likely to leak and decay underneath.
Whether the gum needs contouring first
If the margin sits below inflamed or overgrown gum, that has to be corrected before an accurate impression is possible.
Should be inside the figure
- Tooth preparation and shaping
- Digital scan or conventional impression
- A temporary crown to wear while the permanent one is made
- Shade matching against the adjacent teeth
- Fitting, bite adjustment and cementation
- A review appointment after fitting
Use this as a checklist when comparing quotes. A figure that leaves out half the list is not cheaper, it is incomplete.
Usually priced separately
- Root canal treatmentWhere the tooth is not already root-treated and needs to be before crowning.
- Post and core build-upWhere too little natural tooth remains to support a crown on its own.
- Crown lengtheningMinor gum surgery where the margin sits too close to the bone for a clean fit.
- Replacing an existing crownRemoving an old crown adds time, and occasionally reveals decay underneath that needs treating first.
These sit outside the headline figure and are the usual reason a final bill exceeds expectations. Not all of them will apply to you.

How many crowns?
A best guess is fine. The range scales per crown, and an examination is what settles the real number.

Against the alternatives
This is not the only option worth pricing
The comparison worth making runs over ten years rather than one appointment. Cheapest on the day and cheapest overall are frequently different treatments.
Dental Crowns
15k – 70k
The treatment this guide covers, per crown.
Large filling or onlay
4k – 12k
Where enough sound tooth is left, a well-built restoration can be the right answer and costs considerably less. It is not the right answer on a tooth that is already cracked or root-treated.
Compare properlyExtraction and implant
90k – 2.5 lac
Where the tooth is too broken down to restore predictably. More expensive and slower, but it stops money being spent twice on a tooth that was never going to hold.

How prices compare across Pakistani cities
| Karachi | The widest choice of laboratories and materials, and the largest spread between the cheapest and the best-fitting work. |
| Lahore | Similar range, with good access to digital milling. |
| Islamabad | Typically slightly higher for equivalent materials. |
| Smaller cities | Lower prices, but often hand-built rather than digitally milled crowns — which usually shows in the fit. |
Why the cheapest option often costs more
With crowns, what you are really paying for is fit at the margin — the join between crown and tooth. It is invisible in the mirror and it determines almost everything about how long the crown lasts.
A crown that does not seat precisely leaves a microscopic gap. Bacteria colonise it, decay starts underneath where neither you nor a toothbrush can reach it, and the first sign of trouble is often pain from a tooth that now needs a root canal or extraction — with the crown still looking perfectly fine.
This is why a digitally milled crown from a competent laboratory is worth more than a cheaper hand-built one, and why the tooth preparation matters as much as the crown itself.
Ask whether the crown is digitally milled, which laboratory it goes to, and what guarantee is offered if it fails within a few years. Practices confident in their fit answer that easily.
Payment in stages
Longer courses of treatment are commonly paid in stages across the treatment period rather than up front, with each payment tied to an appointment milestone. Most established Karachi practices will structure this if you ask; it is a normal request and it should not change the treatment you are offered.
How we quote
Everything above is the Pakistani market. For your own case we quote after an examination rather than before it, because the figures on this page move substantially depending on findings we cannot assess without looking: bone condition, canal anatomy, how much sound tooth structure is actually left.
A consultation is PKR 2,000, the same at all three clinics. It covers a full examination, the diagnostic X-rays needed on the day, and a written treatment plan with every item priced separately. You are under no obligation to proceed with any of it.
Questions
Dental Crowns cost, asked plainly
How much does a zirconia crown cost in Pakistan?
Generally PKR 30,000 to 55,000 per crown. PFM sits lower at PKR 15,000 to 35,000, and E-max higher at PKR 40,000 to 70,000.
Is zirconia better than PFM?
For most purposes, yes. There is no metal, so no grey line at the gum as it recedes, and no metal sensitivity. PFM remains a reasonable budget option on back teeth.
Zirconia or E-max for a front tooth?
E-max, usually. It transmits light more like natural enamel, which is what makes a front crown look real rather than merely white. Zirconia is stronger but more opaque.
How long does a zirconia crown last?
Fifteen to twenty years is a reasonable expectation with good hygiene. What usually fails first is not the crown but the tooth underneath it, through decay at the margin.
Do I need a root canal before a crown?
Not always. A crown is needed when a tooth lacks structure; a root canal is needed when the nerve is infected or dying. They often go together but they are separate decisions.
How many visits does a crown take?
Usually two — preparation and impression at the first, fitting at the second, with a temporary crown in between. Practices with in-house milling can sometimes do it in one.
What is a dental bridge and how does it compare?
A bridge replaces a missing tooth by joining crowns on the teeth either side. A three-unit bridge is roughly three crowns in cost. It requires cutting down two healthy teeth, which is the main argument for an implant instead.
Can a crown be whitened?
No. Ceramic does not respond to bleaching. If you plan to whiten your natural teeth, do it before the crown is made so the shade can be matched to the final result.
Does a crown hurt?
Preparation is done under local anaesthetic. Some sensitivity while wearing the temporary is normal and settles once the permanent crown is cemented.
What if my crown comes loose?
See a dentist promptly and keep the crown. A crown that has debonded cleanly can often be recemented. Left off, the prepared tooth shifts and decays quickly.
Is a cheaper crown ever the right choice?
On a back molar that barely shows, a well-fitted PFM crown is perfectly sound dentistry. The compromise worth avoiding is not the material but a poor fit at the margin.
Are crowns covered by insurance in Pakistan?
Occasionally, partially, under corporate dental plans. Individual policies rarely cover them. Check your specific wording.
People also ask about dental crowns cost
Is a zirconia crown better than PFM?
For most back teeth, yes on appearance and no on strength, since both are strong enough. Zirconia has no metal core, so it does not show a dark line at the gum margin as the gum recedes. That margin line is the usual reason people replace a PFM crown.
How long does a dental crown last in Pakistan?
Ten to fifteen years is a reasonable expectation for a well-fitted crown on a healthy foundation. What usually fails first is the tooth or gum underneath, not the crown itself.
Why do I need a post and core?
Where too little natural tooth is left above the gum to hold a crown, a post placed in the root canal supports a build-up that the crown then sits on. It is a separate procedure and a separate line on the estimate.
Can I get a crown in one day?
Some practices with in-house milling can. Most send the case to a laboratory, which means two visits and a temporary crown in between. Neither route is inherently better for the tooth.
